Monticello Animal Hospital is a full service facility, offering up an extensive array of medical, surgical, and dental services.  We are prepared to serve your pet's needs - from routine examinations to emergency abdominal surgery, we will be here when you need us.  Below are some brief descriptions of the services we provide, and we encourage you to contact us if you have any questions about your pet's needs.  Please click on the services to the left for more information.

ExaminationsOur care of your pet always starts with a thorough physical exam.  From the top of the nose to the tip of the tail, our doctors will examine every system and discuss any abnormalities that are found.  Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination.

The Traveling Vet:  Housecall Services If you can't bring your animal(s) to us, we'll come to you!  Our Traveling Vet service allows us to come to your home to provide medical services including examinations, vaccinations, blood sample collection, and in-home euthanasia.

Vaccination:  At Monticello Animal Hospital, we use current vaccination guidelines to successfully prevent serious disease in our pets.  Keeping our domestic animals up to date with their vaccines not only protects them, but it also protects us from serious diseases like rabies and leptospirosis.

Parasite control and treatment:  It is never a surprise how much trouble fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites continue to cause!  We will take the time to discuss the life cycles and treatment/prevention of these pests with you as needed.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory equipment provides rapid serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostic testing and consultation.

Radiology:  Our radiology suite enables us to take high quality radiographs (x-rays) to aid in the rapid diagnosis of a wide variety of disorders.  We also have a high-quality dental x-ray unit, an invaluable tool when providing for your pets dental care.

Ultrasound:  We have a new, state of the art ultrasound machine which allows us to perform highly sensitive, non-invasive internal exams of your pets organs and heart.

Internal Medicine:  Our doctors love challenging internal medicine cases.  With experience from a busy practice and many hours of continuing education each year, our doctors are knowledgeable and prepared to handle your pets medical problems.

Surgery From spays and neuters to orthopedic surgery, we have the training and facility to handle most surgical needs.  Just as important, we provide up to date anesthetic and pain control techniques to allow safe, comfortable surgery.

Anesthesia: We utilize the safest anesthetics and techniques available to provide safe, effective anesthesia and pain management.  Our well-trained staff of licensed technicians provides state of the art monitoring to further minimize complications.  We are very focused on our anesthesia and experience a minimal rate of complications.

Dentistry:  Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and oral surgery.  For more specialized procedures including root canals and crowns, we can have Dr. Ed Taylor with Virginia Veterinary Dentistry come to our hospital for a consultation and treatment.

Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification using Home Again microchip services.  We can quickly perform the microchipping procedure with you in the room while you wait.

Pharmacy:  We maintain a complete inventory of prescription medications, both to serve our outpatient clients as well as our in-hospital critical patients.  In addition, we always stock a full line of flea and tick control products, heartworm preventatives, medicated shampoos, and prescription diets.

Emergency Care:  Monticello Animal Hospital is fully equipped to handle emergencies and critical care.  Our doctors and staff have additional training in this area and are prepared to care for your pets in these special times of need.  If your pet is having an emergency during our office hours, he will be seen, but please try to call us on your way in so we may begin to prepare.  If your pet is having an emergency after hours, please call the Veterinary Emergency Treatment Service, located off of Greenbriar Drive in Charlottesville at 434-973-3519.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

Behavioral Counseling:  We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
